The Olympic Games have the power to project the sport regardless of culture, continent or age group, reaching record global television audiences. Perhaps the best indicator of the growing global appeal of the Games has been its worldwide audience. As an example, we cite the Beijing 2008 Opening Ceremony (photo), which attracted more than 1.5 billion spectators, becoming at the time the most watched live event in the history of humanity, even surpassing the record audiences for the arrival of man on the Moon.
