OLYMPIKA MAGAZINE VOLUME 1 (Nº. 1A) - Special Issue EBOOK - GREEK ART HISTORY OF OLYMPIC CHAMPION MONUMENTS
Vol. 1 (2023)This EBOOK, an integral part of issues 001 and 002 of OLYMPIKA MAGAZINE magazine, is the first portuguese version of the classic work Olympic victor monuments and Greek Athletic Art by Professor Walter Woodburn Hyde, released in 1921.
The work is available partially in OPEN ACCESS and partially exclusively for SUBSCRIBERS in the OLYMPIKA BOOK READER format (a PWA app for reading books and magazines), fully digitized
The objective of the research was to study what is known about one of the most important genres of Greek sculpture – the monuments erected in Olympia and other parts of the Greek world in honor of victorious athletes at the Olympic Games. Given that only scant traces of these monuments have survived, the work was mainly concerned with trying to reconstruct the rare sculptural works of Antiquity.
